Jason Feger Breaks Track Record and Wins Feature, Modified Feature to Gary Cook Jr.www.midwestdirttrackfacts.com
Jason Feger started out the race program Sunday night with a track record run in time trials. The new record is 13.341 seconds; there were 33 late models on hand. The first heat went to Jason Feger over Dennis Erb Jr., Matt Taylor, and Jimmy Dehm. The second heat went to Eric Smith over Brandon Sheppard, Richie Hedrick, and Joe Harlan. The third heat was a real barn burner won by Don O'Neal over Steve Sheppard Jr., Donny Walden, and Ryan Little. The fourth heat went to Daren Friedman over Brian Diveley, Kerry Matthew, and Kevin Weaver. The semi feature went to Chris Dick in an exciting finish over Greg Longfellow, Dan O'Connor, and John Beck. At feature time, pole sitter Jason Feger blasted out to an early lead and kept that lead through two early cautions, with the last portion of the race under green, allowing Feger to start lapping cars at an alarming rate. Eric Smith closed the gap for a while, but it was too little too late, as Feger had sailed his way to the $2,000 feature win. Smith wound up second with Steve Sheppard Jr. third followed by Don O'Neal and Matt Taylor rounding out the top five. The second feature, a make up from a rained out race on July 27, was limited to the drivers who were in that race, and it was also worth $2,000 to the winner. This time, it was Dennis Erb Jr. sitting on the pole, Eric Smith on the outside, Feger and Weaver in the second row. Eric Smith blasted out to a huge lead at the very beginning. By the time Feger would clear his way past Weaver and Erb Jr., Smith had a straightaway lead, but Feger used his familiar high side groove to run down Smith, but after a couple of botched pass attempts, would settle for second, with Steve Sheppard Jr. third. Smith set such a blistering pace that he lapped all the way up to seventh place. In the Modified class, Gary Cook Jr. survived a yellow flag fever to start the feature, but eventually outran eleventh place starter Jeffrey Leka for the win. Third place went to Brian Lynn, followed by Blake Bucholz, Jeb Friedman, Cory Schwengel, and Darcey Wey. In the Street Stocks, the heat races went to Steve Maisel over Terry Miller and to Josh Griffith over Travis Johnson. The feature was an exciting race, finally won by Josh Griffith over Terry Miller, Travis Johnson, Steve Maisel, and Chris Tackett, who started deep in the field. The Hornet heat races went to Bob Sanders, Eric Wisher, and Jonathon Schuck. The feature was won by Bob Sanders over Brian Dasenbrock, Jerry Binnegar, Matt Turley, and Nick Soberri. Schuck and Heidi Hames each got their cars rolled in the feature in separate incidents, and both were unhurt. There were 94 cars in the pits, and the program was complete at 10:40 p.m. Congratulations to the 2008 Track Champions: Matt Taylor, Jeff Leka, Greg Kimmons, Terry Miller, and Bo O'Donoghue.
